Names Selected for New Sofia Metro Stations

4 Apr 2025

The Sofia Municipal Council (SMC) has approved the final decision regarding the names of the new metro stations currently under construction in the city. The proposal was prepared by a specially formed working group and reviewed during a council meeting.

After discussions, the council members approved the names of the new stations on Line M3, extending toward the “Levski” neighborhood, including:

  • “Georgi Asparuhov Stadium”
  • “Vitinya”
  • “Gen. Vladimir Vazov”
  •

For the route that will serve the “Slatina” district, the new station names are:

  • “Sitnyakovo”
  • “Geo Milev”
  • “Slatina”
  • “Shipchenski Prohod”
  • “Arena Sofia”
  • “Trakia” (instead of the initially proposed “Regional Hospital”)
  •

The station in the “Moderno Predgradie” neighborhood will be named “Pancho Vladigerov.” On Line M1, two new stops will be constructed in the “Lyulin” district:

  • “Tsaritsa Yoanna”
  • “Dobrinova Skala”
  •

The council also approved partial changes to the names of some existing stations. The station “Miziya / New Bulgarian University” will now be called simply “Miziya,” and “Bul. Bulgaria” will be shortened to just “Bulgaria.”
